Crest Haven Farm has been in the business of breeding and training American Saddlebred Horses since 1946. Located in the rural Wisconsin community of Sun Prairie on an 80 acre farm that was purchased the Fall of 1946 by Paul and Lexy Nikias, Crest Haven Farm is now home to the Nikias' nephew, Bob Nesson, and his wife, Dr. Lisa Weisensel Nesson.
Following Paul's death in 1980, Bob inherited the property where he continues to run a breeding and training establishment, along with Lisa and Bob's sons from a previous marriage, John and Mark. Lisa handles the veterinary care of all the horses and some training and showing of their home-bred stock. John and Mark help out with the day to day maintenance of the farm, equipment and field work, in addition to helping with some of the training and showing of the farm's horses.
Crest Haven Farm was originally an American Saddlebred breeding operation with 10 broodmares foaling each year. The Nikias stood several stallions over the years including Abdullah Peavine, The Dolphin and his sire Stonewall's Black Knight and High Range. His broodmare band included the great family lines of Edna May's King, Anachacho Denmark, Oman's Desdemona Denmark, and Wing Commander. Paul and Lexy opened the barn to outside horses in 1950. Bob joined his uncle in 1956 and assumed the duties of assistant trainer. In the 1970's and 1980's, Bob primarily worked with Saddlebreds, but he also worked with several Arabians that did well on the Arabian circuits in the United States and Canada. Bob has specialized over the years, in finding good affordable horses and teaming them up with their amateur owners and riders for long-term enjoyment.
Since Bob's marriage to Dr. Lisa Weisensel in 1999, the farm's focus has shifted back to it's roots of breeding, raising, and training home-bred prospects for the show ring and other venues.
